Code Free Website Design for Beginners is for those who want to learn the basics of web design and create a simple website. You will learn what you should consider before beginning your design and then move on to learn how to use a free web design program called WordPress. During the process you will complete hands-on activities to practice each piece as it is presented and then complete an assignment to pull it all together. Communicating with Google Apps

We communicate with each other in many ways, including face-to-face talking, writing letters, or even using pictures. Advances in technology have made it much easier to communicate with friends, family, or co-workers even if they aren't in the same room as you. You can even communicate with other people from around the world, even if you don't speak the same language!
In this course, you will learn how to use the following Google Workspace applications to communicate:

  • Google Meet to use video conferencing to talk synchronously (in real-time) with people in different locations
  • Google Chat to use text-based communication to communicate either synchronously or asynchronously with one or more people
  • Google Translate to communicate with text written in different languages, or communicate in real-time using the mobile application
  • Google Lens to interpret images either synchronously or asynchronously to find product information, help solve problems, translate text on documents or objects, or identify buildings and landmarks

Conquer Your Fear of Digital Technology

This course explores basic computer functions, explains how to save and organize computer files and gives tips for keeping your files safe. Instructions for both Windows and Mac users are given. Learners explore the difference between uploading, downloading, attaching files and using the cloud. Learn about Google Docs and how to create and share files on a new Google account. Learners will create a Google account in this course if they don't have one.

Introduction to Internet and Email

Learn the basics when using the Internet and email. Microsoft Excel 2013-2021 Part 2

Microsoft Excel is a powerful and fun tool that can help you organize, analyze and present information. This is part 2 of two Excel courses. This course will introduce the basic features and functions of Excel, including entering and formatting data in cells, using math formulas and functions. In part 2, you will learn to present information using charts, graphics, Sparklines and SmartArt. You will create attractive Tables, PivotTables and PivotCharts that are easy to read. You will add useful features to analyze your data, like grouping, filters, and slicers. You will learn how macros can be added to automate routine tasks. Lastly, you will learn how to use Excel features to collaborate with others, securely share files and lock cells to prevent users from editing without permission.

Microsoft Excel Level 1 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills. By the end of the course, you will be able to locate common editing tools and understand Excel terminology.  You will have added borders, and aligned and formatted text and numbers.  You will be able to modify columns and rows.  You will know how to insert or delete rows, and columns and change the size in a variety of ways.  You will understand how your cursor changes in appearance to indicate you can move cell contents or autofill a pre-set series of data like days of the week.   You will be able to create custom autofill series.  You will understand the page and margin options available on the print dialogue box and be able to preview your work and efficiently print your projects without wasting paper.  You will know how to access help.

Microsoft Excel Level 2 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills. By the end of the course, you will be able to add formulas to cells.  There are two types of cell references.  You understand relative cell referencing and absolute cell referencing and when to use each type of cell address in your formulas. You will be able to add conditional formatting.  You will have entered dates, formatted dates, and used dates in formulas. You will be able to add basic functions, like AutoSum, Average, Min, and Max to your spreadsheets.  You will understand how to use the IF Function with calculations, IF Functions with calculations and numbers, IF functions, and with text parameters.  You will also have reviewed NESTED IF Functions in Excel.  You will be able to create charts using data in tables.   You will understand how to preview different types of charts and how to change the style of your chart.  You will be able to format your chart and add Titles and a legend.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2016

This five-unit online course will cover the basic functions of Microsoft Word 2016.Learn how to navigate through the program and create, save, edit, and format basic documents. You will perform activities using templates, lists, hyperlinks, pictures and shapes. You'll learn about grouping, margins, inserting headers and footers, and how to insert page numbers within your Word documents.Access to a PC using the Windows operating system is required for this course.  Students must have a basic familiarity with computers before they begin this course.

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 1 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills.  By the end of the course, you will be able to locate common editing tools and commands and learn common terminology used to describe PowerPoint features.   You will be able to add text, bulleted lists and search for an online picture, and use drawing tools to format your text boxes and pictures. You will be able to move, delete or duplicate slides. You understand how to change the view of your presentations between normal and slide sorter and sort the order of your slides in multiple ways.  You will be able to add user notes to your projects and know how to view them in multiple ways as you present your slides.

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 2 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills. By the end of this course, you will be able to locate editing tools to change the background colour in your slide show. You will be able to add online video clips and hyperlinks to your projects. You will be able to copy an object from one slide to another using copy and paste commands and use format painter to copy the format from one object to another. You will have practiced adding animation to objects on your slides, reordering the animation, and adjusting the timing of your animation actions. You will know how to add picture styles to pictures and add slide transitions to change how one slide transitions from one slide to the next. You will also know your print options for your PowerPoint projects.

Microsoft Word Level 1 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills.  By the end of the course, you will be able to make formatting changes to your documents, create a bulleted list and sort the items on your list, and indent and change the spacing in your documents.  You will be able to turn on and off word wrap and understand what word wrap is.  You will know how to find and replace text, use the spelling and grammar check features and insert synonyms and use thesaurus within Word to get a quick list of word replacements.  Word 2016-2019.

Microsoft Word Level 2 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills. By the end of the course, you will be able to make formatting changes to your documents, like copying and moving the text to a new location within your document, using the format painter tool, adding columns, and sorting lists.  You will be able to add page borders, insert tables, and adjust tables by adding rows or cells and adjusting cell width and height.  You will be able to merge cells in a table, align text and change text direction, and add colour and borders using the tools on the Layout and Design tabs.  Word 2016-2019.

Microsoft Word Level 3 Video Tutorials

In this course, you will watch a number of video tutorials and then complete practice assignments for hands-on practice of your new skills. By the end of this course, you will be able to change line spacing, paragraph spacing, and margins.  Add a cover page, add headers and footers, page numbers, and footnotes.  You will be able to create styles, generate a Table of Contents using Applied Styles, and format your bibliography.  You will be able to insert pictures, clip art, and shapes, insert and format textboxes, and create a chart in Word using data in a table.  You will understand the different types of charts available in Word.  You will review the design options on the Chart Tools menus, create a merge file that you can personalize and send to multiple people and create and customize a mailing list and mailing labels.  You will be able to add hyperlinks to your documents in a variety of ways, track changes in your document and review or accept the change and add comments to the document to communicate with others working on the project with you. This course is the digital version of a course created by Literacy Link South Central (LLSC) in 2013 and funded by the Ontario government using Employment Ontario funding. Google Apps 1: Intro to Google Apps

This is a two-part series.  In the first class, we introduce you to Google Apps (Applications). These are programs that can help you organize your life with one simple login!  You can manage your email, calendar of events, documents, spreadsheets and more, from any device with an internet connection.  Collaborate with others or chat with friends. Google apps are handy, easy to use and free! 

 

Google Apps 2: Using Google Drive

In the first class, we give an overview of the most popular Google Apps.  In this next class, we explore one of those Apps in more detail - Google Drive.  This is a program that lets you keep all your digital files together in one handy spot.  You can access your files on any device with an internet connection.  We will explain how to share files with others and give tips for organizing them.  This is a great class for learners who are entering a school program or looking to build their digital skills for work.

Microsoft Excel: Level 1

Microsoft Excel is a powerful program that lets you organize numbers and information.  You will use this program at work and home to create many projects, including budgets, schedules, contact lists and more!  This class starts with basic workbook terminology.  We will explore ribbons and tabs and learn to modify columns, rows and cells.  We will practise modifying text and number formats and adding borders and shading.  You will learn worksheet management tips including how to add, rename, move and copy cells.  A practice activity will be assigned for homework.

*This class uses Microsoft Excel  2016, but older versions of software may be compatible.

 

Microsoft Excel: Level 2

This class will continue where we left off in Level 1.  We will start by exploring how to format your worksheet, dates and charts.  Basic functions like sum, max, min and average will be demonstrated. These are all simple ways to interpret your data.  An introduction to formulas: cell referencing, absolute, relative, mixed cell addresses and “What if” analysis will be explained.  You will learn how to print your formulas and add headers and footers. A practice activity will be assigned for homework.

*This class uses Microsoft Excel  2016, but older versions of software may be compatible. 

 

Microsoft PowerPoint: Level 1

Microsoft PowerPoint is a program used to create digital presentations.  In this first class, you will learn the basics of using slides, adding text, and exploring different views.  Creating title slides, text slides and bulleted lists will also be demonstrated. Finally, you will learn how to activate a slideshow and save your presentation.  A practice activity will be assigned for homework. 

*This class uses Microsoft PowerPoint 2016, but older versions of software may be compatible.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint: Level 2

This class continues where we left off in Level 1. You will learn how to copy elements between slides or from files or the internet, use the format painter feature and explore various print options such as grayscale print and audience handouts.  We will teach you how to add interest to your presentation with text and slide animation, clip art, movie clips and hyperlinks.  We will finish up by showing how to  change font colors, delete placeholders, use the help feature and end a presentation.  A practice activity will be assigned for homework.

Microsoft Word: Level 1

Microsoft Word is a program that lets you create digital documents.  With this program you can create letters, resumes, forms, flyers and much more!  In Level 1, we introduce you to the basic features.  We look at common keys and icons.  We explore ribbons, tabs, scrolling, toolbars, entering and formatting text and making paragraphs.  You will also learn how to create bulleted lists, use find and replace, spell check, grammar check, and synonyms features.  A practice activity will be assigned for homework.

This class will continue where we left off in Level 1.  We will explore how to move and copy text, use print features, delete and copy formats, sort lists, create columns, add and customize page borders, create and format tables, use templates, and manage and create shortcuts to your files.  A practice activity will be assigned for homework.

Microsoft Word: Level 3

This class will continue where we left off in Level 2.  We will work with multi-page documents to add headers and footers, title pages, page numbers, footnotes, table of contents and bibliographies.  You will learn how to change margins, line spacing and paragraph spacing, use shortcut keys, and insert pictures, clipart and text boxes.  We will practice using  hyperlinks and using tables to make charts and graphs.   A practice activity will be assigned for homework.
